The Bocce Garden
This design promised a quirky example of high quality Italian inspired Landscape Design in Australia blended with a commitment to sustainable materials and responsible water usage. In 1952 Gianna and Guido De Conza migrated to Australia from Trevisso in Northern Italy in search of a better life after WW2. They built on their knowledge of gleaning materials to develop a house and drought tolerant courtyard to complement the landscape and embrace their love of all things Italian. Posters from Gianna’s days at the café have been combined with recycled wall hangings, old wine barrels, succulents, cannas (a favourite of Gianna’s Nona) and other items Guido has collected along the way (the lions were the first two the factory produced and the fence was rescued from the demolition of the old Bendigo cactus garden). Of course a bocce court (in recycled concrete) is included as an essential ingredient of all the family get-togethers. The Bocce Garden is a fictional story for the purposes of the design intention.
